The indefinite strike observed by all cadre employees of the state health department for five days was called off on Sunday after the representative union of the employees Chhattisgarh Pradesh Swasthya Karmachari Sangh was given assurance regarding fulfilment of the 24-point demands by none other than the Deputy Chief Minister and also the state Health Minister TS Singh Deo on whose pursuance in wake of the positive development  a delegation of the union later met state Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also to convey about the unanimity and cordiality of the employees with the state government for the sake of the common people.

 The health care services in all the hospitals of the state government were adversely affected due to the strike. Looking at the helpless situation of the common people, the health employees also became sympathetic and hoped that the state government would take initiative for the sake of the employees and the common people as well.

On Sunday, a delegation of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Swasthya Karmachari Sangh talked in details about each and every aspect of the 24-point demands with Minister Singh Deo at his official residence in the state capital. Regarding those demands that need financial sanctions for fulfilment, the minister told the delegation that the matter encompasses the state finance department also therefore final decision can be arrived only after discussion with the State Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

The deputy chief minister took initiative then and there for meeting of the union delegation with the state chief minister, and he also gave a feedback to the delegation that in case of the chief minister’s consent for the talks the scheduled time would be communicated to the delegation well in advance.   

Regarding fulfilment of those demands that need no financial sanctions, minister Singhdeo contacted Additional Chief Secretary Renu Pillai over phone and made the point clean and clear to the officer for a meeting of the union delegation with Secretary and Director of the health and family welfare department in presence of the additional chief secretary for fulfilment of the demands. A time limit of five days was set for tabling the compliance report on fulfilment of the union’s charter of demands. The concerned officials were directed for the necessary compliance. In course of discussion, the minister further told the union delegation over the demands of the contractual and daily wage earners working under the National Health Mission that whatever decisions are taken regarding regularization of all contractual/daily wage earners, making 62-year age limit for contractual employees and service guarantee, would benefit the concerned employees of the health department also.

It was only after such a concern shown by Minister Singhdeo and the said assurances given, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Swasthya Karmachari Sangh called off the indefinite strike. Later in the evening, a delegation of the Sangh met State Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at his official residence, and also present on the occasion was the Deputy Chief Minister TS Singhdeo.
