** Having dialysis treatment at their own district headquarter levels, the patients need not think of travelling to other cities. It will not only save the patients’ time, but also reduce their financial difficulties.

RAIPUR:  In expanding the healthcare facilities and services, the Chhattisgarh  government health department will now provide dialysis services at 27 district hospitals. Patients of kidney diseases will now receive free dialysis treatments at their district headquarters. Thus, no more there is the need of such patients to travel outside the state.

The dialysis treatment is needed frequently so the patients’ families have to go undergo financial difficulties along with other hardships, particularly those living in remote areas. Locally available cost-free dialysis has brought immense relief to affected individuals, and has alleviated the financial stress and strain associated with their conditions.

Under the supervision of the state Health and Family Welfare Minister TS Singh Deo, the Health Department has successfully established dialysis services in 27 district headquarters and Devbhog Community Health Centre through the National Health Mission, Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme ‘Jeevan Dhara’, and District Mineral Trust Fund (DMF) of the state.

Under the cover of ‘Jeevan Dhara’ programme, the state government has established dialysis services at various district hospitals, which include Durg, Kanker, Bilaspur, Mahasamund, Korba, Ambikapur, Jashpur, Bijapur, Raipur, Janjgir, Jagdalpur, Gariaband, Mungeli, Dhamtari, Balodabazar, Baikunthpur, Surajpur, Kawardha, Rajnandgaon, Balod, Bemetara, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, and Sukma District Hospitals and Devbhog Community Health Centre.

A significant milestone has been reached with the installation of 106 dialysis machines across these 24 hospitals, resulting in 87,321 successful dialysis sessions. In the previous fiscal year of 2022–23, a remarkable 46,679 dialysis sessions were conducted for patients with kidney diseases in these hospitals. Further expansion has been done with installation of dialysis machines funded by the District Mineral Trust Fund in Dantewada, Balrampur, Raigarh, and Kondagaon district hospitals. Presently, Dantewada district hospital is operating four machines while Balrampur and Raigarh district hospitals are operating three in each hospital, and Kondagaon district hospital is operating one dialysis machine.
