The health department of the state government, National Health Mission and Tata Trust associate Collective for Integrating Livelihood Initiatives (CINI) have together developed 23 urban Primary Health Centres of Chhattisgarh as model ‘Hamar Aspatal’ healthcare institutions.

In these model hospitals the local people of the area concerned are getting better health services, and of these 23 hospitals, 14 urban PHCs have been awarded the National Quality Assurance Standard (NAQS) certificate by the Union Health and Family Welfare ministry.

With the said project of model Urban Primary Health Centre, it is since 2019 that tasks are being done under Chhattisgarh Health System Strengthening Initiative of Tata Trust, in collaboration with Chhattisgarh government. The 23 model urban PHCs have ideal vaccination room, patient oriented health service- points, use of digital technology and streamlined pharmacy. In these model hospitals, the number of medicines and diagnostic tests are increased, and the working efficiency of the staff members there, is also improved. All the other urban primary health centres in different parts of Chhattisgarh state are going to be developed like these models.

Proving its commitment of making the health services within easy reach of the common people, the Tata Trust has worked for identification of such children who are suffering due to Congenital Heart Diseases and need medical treatment at the earliest. Together with Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital of Naya Raipur, Tata Trust has worked for screening of children suffering congenital heart diseases, and also for providing them the necessary medical treatment in time. Mainly due to the support of the trust, around one thousand such children have so far undergone different operations. It is with the help of the Tata Trust  that screening centres for identification of children having congenital heart disease are being run in four cities of Chhattisgarh that are Jagdalpur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon and Raipur.

In a programme held on the other day, all the staff members of the 23 model Hummer Aspataals were felicitated. In this programme, a workshop on ‘Workplace Happiness’ was also organised for the said hospital staff, and also a panel discussion was held on the topic as ‘Primary Health Care Among Urban Population’. A booklet prepared by the CINI on the ideal ‘Humar Aspatal’ project of Chhattisgarh was also released on the occasion.

Addressing on the occasion, the National Health Mission Director Bhaskar Vilas Sandeepan said that in both rural and urban areas quality health care services have to be provided, and health is a priority task area. While complementing the staffers who have provided better health care services in the said type of model hospitals, the director said that the feedback of these workers will also make the services of other centres better, so their input is necessary. He also expressed thankfulness to the Tata Trust and CINI for the cooperation in streamlining the primary health care services of the state.

Senior Health Advisor of the Tata Trust Dr Sita Ram Budraju said in his address on the occasion that the efforts of the trust is to make the quality health care services easily reachable and affordable particularly for the deprived section of the society.  It is with this noble objective that the trust has been working with Chhattisgarh government over the past few years. The networks of 23 model ‘Humar Aspatals’, digitalisation and continuous monitoring for quality control have made the pilot project successful. He expressed the hope that the initiative will be helpful in capacity enhancement of frontline health workers as a result of which quality health care services will be available to the people due to improved quality of the health workers and use of latest technology as well.

 

Joint Director of Chhattisgarh health department Dr Surendra Pambhoi and Executive Director of CINI Dr Ganesh Neelam also expressed their views on the occasion. Also present were Chief Medical and Health Officer of Raipur Dr. Mithilesh Choudhary, National Health Mission State Programme Manager Anand Sahu, Urban Health Programme Manager Dr Pradeep Tandon, Uriya Naag from World Health Organisation, Dr Abhijeet Chaudhary from Tata Trust.
